The FIJI Moms’ Club aims to serve two primary purposes, the first of which is social. We want our FIJI moms’ to feel connected to the Zeta Chapter and to each other. We try to provide opportunities for moms’ to get to know the young men in the house, to see their own sons as they interact with their FIJI brothers, to become familiar with the house itself, and to make connections with other FIJI moms. During first semester, we greet the new pledges and their families on move-in day, provide snacks during IU Dance Marathon, and host the Annual Holiday Cookie Exchange. The highlight of the year is FIJI Moms’ Weekend, which is scheduled for January 31 - Feb 2, 2020. The entire event is an energizing, fun-filled weekend that includes spending time with our sons and those pledge brothers we’ve heard so much about, meeting other FIJI moms’ who come in from all over the country, and raising money for the coffers for this year and beyond. Typically we have close to 100% participation, so mark your calendars and make your hotel reservations NOW! At the end of second semester we also host our annual Graduation Day Celebration for our seniors and their families. In addition, we provide periodic email communication and opportunities to volunteer throughout the year!
Our second focus is to raise funds that support the Zeta Chapter and the FIJI House Corporation in other ways the annual room and board fees and operating budget cannot. The majority of our annual funding is raised during Moms’ Weekend. Additionally, our donations help to fund buses to transport FIJI members and their dates to and from Nashville in the fall and Black Diamond weekend in Chicago in the spring, fund the the Senior Graduation Lunch, and other miscellaneous expenses.
The Moms’ Club board consults with the chapter and the House Corporation and determines how best to allocate the remaining funds. In recent years we funded the FIJI monument sign, work-out equipment and outside pavers for the new FIJI house.
The FIJI Moms’ Club is dedicated to supporting our sons’ college experience at IU and their lifelong commitment to FIJI.
