FIJI MOM'S NEWSLETTER
The FIJI Mom’s Club is excited to announce plans for our premier event of the year: the 2020 FIJI Mom’s Weekend, which will be held January 31 – February 2, 2020! We have a packed, fun-filled weekend planned and have all the details for you in this newsletter.
Mom’s Weekend is always a special opportunity for moms to create lasting memories with their sons, their sons’ fraternity brothers and fellow moms, and to experience first-hand the bonds of FIJI life at IU. We typically have close to 100% participation, so please mark your calendar and make your reservation today!
Creating fellowship opportunities for FIJI moms and sons and enhancing our sons’ experience at college is the purpose of Mom’s Club. In addition to Mom’s Weekend, we accomplish this through hosting the FIJI Family Tailgate, the Mom’s Club Cookie Exchange, and the Graduation Celebration for seniors and their families. We also support our sons by welcoming the freshman and their families at move-in day, decorating the house for the holidays, providing snacks during IUDM, and funding buses to take our sons and their dates to their formal dance in Nashville, Tennessee in the Fall and to Black Diamond in Chicago in the Spring. You can keep abreast of all Mom’s Club activities on our recently updated website, [email protected].
All of our fundraising for these activities occurs at Mom’s Weekend during our Saturday evening banquet. We will have both live and silent auctions, a heads & tails competition, and a fund-a-need opportunity. We ask that each mom donates to the auction; please see page four of this Newsletter for guidelines and suggestions. Because the expense of funding buses to Black Diamond in Chicago is significant, we ask that you also consider donating directly towards this, which can be done via the Mom’s Weekend reservation page in this Newsletter.
The bonds our sons create at Zeta FIJI are special and the benefits they experience continue for their entire lifetime. Mom’s Club is dedicated to supporting those bonds through our programs. We thank you in advance for your contributions to make our weekend successful.
Please read this newsletter carefully, as there are deadlines you need to be aware of and items that need your response. We look forward to another fantastic Mom’s Weekend together, and we hope to see all of you there!

*VOLUNTEERS*
Volunteers are necessary to ensure the Saturday evening banquet goes smoothly! If you are interested in helping with the auction set up on Saturday morning from 9am-10am or Saturday afternoon from 4:30pm-5:30pm, please email Jill Pitz, [email protected] or Laura Datillo, [email protected]. If you would like to help with room set-up, check-in, or clean-up for Saturday’s banquet, please email Donna Bennett, [email protected]. THANK YOU!
*TOUR OF ASSEMBLY HALL AND COOK HALL*
Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall opened as Assembly Hall during the 1971-72 season and recently underwent renovation. Since 1971, millions of fans have attended Indiana basketball games at Assembly Hall, which holds 17,222 fans and is consistently sold out throughout the men’s basketball season. Cook Hall is home to the Pfau Shine Legacy Court, a unique museum/exhibit space that chronicles the history of Indiana basketball with photographs, artifacts, trophies and interactive touch-screen kiosks that celebrate IU’s championship teams and basketball traditions. In partnership with the Indiana Star, one of the interactive displays features a former player database. You and your son won’t want to miss this special opportunity to tour these facilities during Mom’s Weekend!
*HOTEL RESERVATIONS*
A block of rooms is reserved at three hotels in Bloomington, but only until January 3, 2020, with the exception of the Graduate Hotel which expires on Dec 30th. We urge you to RESERVE your room today! Make sure to mention you are with the FIJI MOMS’ WEEKEND group, so you receive the discounted rate.
*FUNDRAISING AUCTION DONATIONS*
Now is the time to decide what to offer for the Saturday night silent and live auctions. We are asking each mom to donate at least one item. If you are unfamiliar with the auctions, following are some donation ideas that have been very popular in the past.
As an alternative to a single item, consider a bundle of goods or services that have a similar theme. The “gift basket” concept can often generate more enthusiasm than if the items are available for bid separately. Lastly, consider pooling your resources with other FIJI moms if you want to “SUPERSIZE” your donation!
A week or weekend at a condo or lake house makes a FABULOUS auction item. Please be sure to include details such as available dates and any applicable conditions.
Alcohol and Tobacco are not suitable auction items.
